The Story Behind Original Buddha Art

Original Buddha Art was born from a personal search for modern Buddha paintings from Thailand. During a trip in February 2026, I discovered the work of Thai artist Seksak Jaichumchen in Chon Buri. His hand-painted Buddha art combines powerful colors with a serene presence and fits surprisingly well in modern European interiors.

After meeting the artist in person, a collaboration quickly emerged. The first paintings were brought to the Netherlands and became the starting point of Original Buddha Art — a platform for unique, hand-painted Buddha paintings from Thailand.

All Buddha paintings by Original Buddha Art are respectfully blessed by a Buddhist monk in Thailand. In this blog, you will learn more about the meaning of this tradition, the role of temples such as Wat Chai Mongkhon in Chon Buri, and why blessings are an important part of daily life in Thailand.

In this way, a unique connection is created between Buddha art from Thailand, spiritual tradition, and the space where the painting ultimately finds its place.

For many people, this blessing adds an extra sense of peace, mindfulness, and meaning to the artwork. It contributes to a harmonious atmosphere in both home and workspace, while enhancing the experience of a hand-painted Buddha painting with spiritual significance. It also reflects a deeper appreciation for art that carries both aesthetic and cultural value.

  • By: Alex Brandt

A Buddha painting can bring peace, balance, and a distinctive atmosphere to your interior. But the difference between a hand-painted painting and a print is greater than many people think, especially when it comes to quality and experience.

A hand-painted painting is created with care and craftsmanship and is characterized by visible brushstrokes, texture, and depth. This results in more character and a vibrant appearance that is often missing in prints.

In addition, the background of the artwork also plays an important role. Hand-painted Buddha paintings from Thailand are often connected to tradition, symbolism, and a deeper meaning, which gives the artwork extra value.

In this blog, you will learn what the main differences are and how to make a conscious choice between a hand-painted or printed Buddha painting.

Can you buy a Buddha painting for yourself?

A Buddha painting symbolizes peace, balance, and a special meaning in your home. Many people consciously choose this form of art because of its appearance and the feeling it brings. Yet you often hear that you should only have a Buddha if you receive it as a gift. This creates doubt for many people when making a decision.

This belief is mainly based on a Western myth that has developed over time. Due to misinterpretations of Asian traditions and the symbolism surrounding gift-giving, this idea has spread further and further. It sounds logical and is often repeated, which makes it feel like the truth for many people.

In reality, within Buddhism it is not about how you obtain a Buddha, but about the intention, respect, and meaning you give to it. This truth shows that it is not about receiving or buying, but about the personal value the artwork has for you. It is precisely this personal connection that makes each painting unique.

In this blog, you will read where this belief comes from and discover why you can easily buy a Buddha painting yourself. You will also see why giving one can be a special and meaningful gift. This way, you can make a well-considered choice that fits your own situation.
